Donations are no longer required to Paul’s Fund

Since we (David and Pippa) first set up Paul’s Fund in 2009 we have been amazed at the consistent generosity of people which means we have never had to worry about there being enough money to meet the requests for grants. In fact income has always met or exceeded expenditure.

As we approach retirement age and begin to think about a time when we will no longer be running Paul’s Place, we find ourselves in a situation where there is enough money to continue making grants for at least a further 2 or 3 years and so we have taken the unusual decision to ask people to stop making donations!

We want to emphasise that Paul’s Place will continue to welcome guests as normal and we welcome continued applications until further notice!

When the time does come to stop  running Paul’s Place, then if there is money still left in Paul’s Fund we undertake to use it to fund other charities supporting young adults facing the same challenges as set out in the Paul’s Fund criteria.

We would like to take this opportunity  to say a huge thank you to all our donors whether your gift has been large or small, a one off or regular. We always say, and mean, that it is not just about the money but about the expression of support for us and the young adults who have benefited from a stay at Paul’s Place.

Suzie Holmes is a CLIC Sargent worker in Bristol who visited us recently and has made many referrals over the years.

Following her visit she said:

“I work with young people (aged 16 – 25 yrs) who have cancer. I have been referring families to Paul’s Place for years and time and time again young people and their families love it! David and Pippa really look after them and the location is just perfect for relaxation and time out from treatment and hospital. A Cancer diagnosis and treatment not only turns people’s lives upside down from an emotional perspective but often leaves families facing debts and financial pressures. The fact that Paul’s Place offers holidays that are paid for makes a huge difference to families who otherwise would have no way of affording a holiday. It keeps families going through treatment and David and Pippa bend over backwards to ensure that everything runs smoothly for them.

Sadly there are also a lot of families who are bereaved and left broken. Paul’s Place offers these families ‘bereavement breaks’ which make such a huge difference to people at this time. Pippa and David are so understanding of people’s needs and help to not only provide them with ‘time out’ but also provide them with inspiration and hope for the future. Many families return to Paul’s Place as they love it so much.

Paul’s Place means so much to me as a Social Worker as there are now very limited charities who will work with patients who are over the age of 16 years, as well as bereaved families. It is a vital resource for me and makes such a huge difference to the young people and families who I support. Thank you Paul’s Place!”
