Time to Move On

August 19, 2020  |  Blog, News

For nearly ten years Pippa and I (David) have had the privilege of welcoming to Paul’s Place young adults and their families from across the country who have been facing significant challenges due to a diagnosis of cancer or other life-limiting conditions, or bereavement. It hasn’t always been easy but it has been worthwhile and having lost our own son Paul to a brain tumour, it has given us a focus and purpose in our lives that has been immensely rewarding.

But the time has now come for us to move on. Our daughter and her family are moving from London to Manchester and have invited us to move to be closer to them. We have accepted the invitation!

Paul’s Place, known to the wider public as The Old Bakery, is now on the market and once we have found a buyer we will head north to Cheshire and the start of a new chapter in our lives.

Paul’s Fund/Paul’s Place has always been a very personal charity and so we have been winding down the fund over the last year or so and this summer/autumn we are welcoming our final guests.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many many people who have made this venture possible down the years whether through fund raising, giving, practical or just moral support and friendship. Special thanks must go to Paul’s own friends who were amazing in helping us get going in the early years, and have remained our friends ever since. And to our church, St George’s, which has been a constant source of help and encouragement down the years.

Whilst we are looking forward to being much closer to our daughter, son-in-law and first grandchild, we will be very sad to leave Georgeham with its great community and amazing location on the beautiful North Devon coast. We will miss the friends we have made, the walks on Croyde and Putsborough Beaches and along the coastal path. It has been the perfect location for Paul’s Place and will always be very special to us, not least because this is where Paul and I used to come surfing from Bristol.

So thank you for supporting and/or using Paul’s Fund and we will do a final post when we have an actual date for moving!
